10k in 48, HOORAY!

wpid-20150426_092846.jpg

Hooray again I’ve never ran passed the Causeway so fast. I pushed for that last bend to the end remembering what the little girl signed said. “Dig Deeper”, because it was just a Seinfeld episode and a have ago we were all clustered on the street at the start gate with bright eyes and springy shoes.  Whether it was dropping the gear at the tents or a last minute bladder drain everybody was feeling fit and everything they were doing had a spring to it. Then it kicks off, we begin to move slowly like a herd at a cattle drive. Feeling Billy Crystal is gonna pop up behind me on his noble stead saying Moo Cow! Moo Cow!.

But seriously what is this? Its 8 in the morning on a Sunday and I’m already a mile deep. But its not just me, this mass amount of people get together every year on this day and run 10k. Its wild! Trying to utilize the weirdness of running down these main streets through red and green lights. “Should I act like a car on low gas and just give ‘er” because about 3 km in, you start thinking about the last cigarette you every smoked. But if the fireman with full gear on isn’t stopping then neither am I.

Hitting the water edge with the hill ahead we were a variegated school of fish swimming as one.  Possibly what it might have looked like when Moses lead his people with pride and determination out of bondage.  If Nike or Reebok where around in those times. Now the moment of hydration with arms extended the water station is a scene of crushed cups and the chaos of changing your rhythm. The climb rose and the Indian drums pound a peppy beat that could be categorized if there was something out there called Tribal Pop. Its spirited and then I see it, “1 mile left”. The sexiest sign I would see all day.

Congrats to all the runners who attempt marathons of any distance.

Two Sides Of The Same Coin

Whether grey or blue sky the hoop won’t change. The only thing that might change is how you look at it. the ambition/thrill to play. The revelation that the drive to be outside far surpasses the obstacles infront of you. A completely different dynamic, the truth is it is difficult to feel overheated with cold clouds overhead. But the beauty of an overcast day is after the running, embrace the cold air rushing through your body.
As the heart beat slows to a regular beat and the brumal atmospheric conditions begin to tickle at the little hairs and arms, nothing feels better then slipping on a sweater. One of the reasons why at One Tribe, for the extra warmth, we rock Hoodies with a heavier thread.  Because whether its by the ocean or in the concrete jungle our playground shouldn’t  be decided by wheather.

Brumal ~ anything relating to that shiver that comes from wintry cold weather

RIght Before You See It

Then the darkness breaks, The wind sweeps over the head and you get a sweet salty smell, the trees stop and you begin to see blue and light. The wind hits again and as you gravitate towards the still mountains you know your about to come up to an epic view.

It was a fun day out in the hills of deep metchosin forest. Saw a jeep climb cliffs, saw mussels the size of fish. Cold breeze but One Tribe did up some warm Ragnarock Hoodies.

They Call It Black Friday

BBf1dD6.img

“Hand over the #@$%  t-shirt” is the title of this picture and article written by Scott Feschuk for Macleans magazine. It truly exemplifies the complete beautiful madness that can happen to a human being. I don’t believe this is something neanderthals dealt because media may blow it up a little but the footage is true, its crazy. Black Friday in a way is similar to one of the cheap buffets you have in Vegas. It is the mass production of something a bulk price. The idea of the money you save gives some perception of value that can make a herd of people levitate of the ground and rush a department store like juggernaut bulldozing down anyone who gets in there way. However that same energy could be harnessed with a different inspirited approach by finding that one particular gift for someone. Investigative and thoughtful you get to tell the story of how your search lead you to that special something that was what you felt the person really needed or wanted. It will be more methodic with heart and less psychotic franticness with rage. Unless your whole family wants i phones, then by all means go on Black Friday, they have wicked deals there. Just watch your back,  because one false move and grandma will ripped that damn phone from your cold dead hands.

What Happened To The Curious Cat

IMG_20141031_201021

What compels us to seek the unknown. Staring down the dark hallway of that creepy building. We know we shouldn’t go down there without someone but that something says ” I’m gonna check it out”. the Awesomeness of Curiosity. The same thing that finds us righteousness is the same thing can leave us hacked up into little bits. Or become someones lampshade. After getting up close and personal with this creepy dwelling, by no means do I have it all covered. Nevertheless as fan of the horror flicks and in the spirit of Halloween, I simply say a few words to the wise.

Do not go into that random abandon cabin you just found especially if your being chased by a maniac.

Do not go into that deserted motel in the middle of nowhere. Sleep in your freakin car ..with a bat.

If a slow moving body dripping blood doesn’t respond to you they might need more help than you can offer

Chop the dudes head off. knocking them out with a frying pan is not gonna do much.

Finally Lights On!. if your checking something out take out the shadows illuminate the room.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE

The clouds burst and the raindrops poured down sprinkling over the mountains, streaming through the landscape. Riding down trials like sheets of liquid sunshine mirroring the majestic scene around, it was awesome. In the *deluge of a fall day on the island, a new trail was discovered.

Block Parties Rock

word press

That nice balance of experiencing the wonderment of your world and sharing it with all the awesome people around. Though it’s so easy to lose yourself in the life of others, spending time online, expanding your group of like minded people that enjoy the same things you do, and forgetting to give yourself the time to get out there and shred your own path. Thats the gift and curse of social media. Thats why I’m stoked about the Viddy Block Party kicking off next week. Viddy is a social media site that encourages you to showcase a little bit of your playful radness 30 secs at a time through videos.  Hosted online at the  One Tribe 2010 Facebook page, anyone part of the Viddy community can submit, suggest others, or have their’s chosen by One Tribe to get some awesome gifts along with the props they deserve.

A celebration of all the dynamic talent and a humble appreciation to an amazing community who has welcomed with open arms, just like the creative full hearted authors I have been able to  meet on WordPress. Cool Waters Of The Deer Group Islands

1187077_10151826686080359_1396565663_n

Located in the beautiful back country of Barkley sound lies the small fishing town of Bamfield B.C. The relaxed pace and natural beauty plays host to a secluded inlet that leads you out into the alluring landscape of the Deer Group islands. Less for the adrenaline rush a kayaking trip to travel through flourishing forest that cascade against the neighboring inlets and islands. bright colors of the sea life mixing with a vast spectrum of blues in the cool waters is a definite kickass way to see this part of B.C.  Paddling around the east side of Fleming and through Robbers passage land arch  where you can catch it as the tide rolls in propelling you out like a power boost through the deep rooted caves. It can take many days depending on the trip and you can find some pleasant spots to camp throughout. Some rocky terrain, but others with the white sands of a tropical beach on Stud and Ross. Absolutely great fishing and not uncommon as you kayak around tzarus island to see fisherman all over the island grabbing great looking salmon. Throughout the world there are captivating clusters of islands. The temperate climate and variegated landscape of B.C make this archipelago a source of motivation to take care of our coastal environments and makes me proud that we at One Tribe 2010 our proud members of Surfrider Foundation and !% For The Planet, working together to bring greatness to Mother Nature loveliness.
