The Blossoming Of Spring

Covered Bridge in Spring

I love this time of year with the *inflorescence of spring bouncing off every cherry blossom and grassy hill flowing with a gentle wind off the coast. The sun radiants and you feel that jolt to mingle out a little longer and join in some activities and gatherings. That excitement of summer makes you think of the new things you want to do and enjoy some of the favorite classics. One of my new things I’m stoked to try is hand gliding. I wonder what other ideas out of the adventurous  we could attempt this summer. Got any your fired up about trying out this summer?

The Winter Warlock Just Wants To Be Called Winter

maxresdefault

It’s always special when you discover how each character enriches the story, showing something significant about themselves and how they connect to the moments in the story were their actions  becomes the history.  In particular the classic Santa Claus is Coming To Town brings the history of how it all came to be delightfully to life. Kris always having to be one step ahead of that mean old mayor The Burgermeister, finding ways to sneak kids the toys (which later had him on the run like Harrison Ford in the fugitive). The beard and red coat, Meeting Miss Jessica, the future Mrs Claus and all the Winter Warlock wanted to be called when he was nice was Winter. On The Fifth Show of Christmas watch some playful animation with greats like Fred Astaire and Mickey Rooney in Santa Clause Is Coming To Town.

Bringing in Christmas Like A Badass, John McClane Style

945053-die-hard

This is it, if anyone is wondering, Die Hard is my favorite christmas show. Partly because so many tell me it’s not, I feel I have discovered a rare holiday gem.  Just listening to the musical score throughout the movie, there is so much christmas music beautifully orchestrated you would think you were in Carnegie Hall,New York until  you see John McClane tearing across the screen with a machine gun and realize your in sunny LA with that determined German bastard Hans Gruber trying to take over Nakatomi Plaza on Christmas Eve.  With so many actors who had passed on the main role, I couldn’t image anyone else but badass Bruce Willis playing the role. On The Sixth Show Of Christmas get some Wild Turkey bourbon and watch Die Hard. To all a yippy ki ya muthaf%#*ker and to all a good night

How The Grinch Stole Our Hearts

how-the-grinch-stole-christmas-original

Finished the last of my Christmas Shopping (I hope). The traffic was bad, the people were jerks and all the noise, noise, noise makes it a perfect night to have some wine and watch That grouchy green old Grinch. He is so lovable my heart grows the full three sizes every time because like many of us, it’s when we expect someone to fall into their normal pattterns and then are completely surprised and delighted when they do what we never thought they were capable of doing. On The Seventh Show of Christmas  we take a sleigh ride to the quirky town of Whoville with The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

FInd The Heart of Dance and Theatre in White Christmas

WC_Still_0006.tif

As White Christmas was introduced to the world the holidays would forever get a precious gem that brings the heart of dance theatre and film all together.  The performance of the whole cast is phenomenal, but Danny Kaye  and his number in “Choreography” is my absolute favorite. Even in a snowless Vermont, the director Michael Curtiz, also of Casablanca, found an elegance in the landscape and every time I watch I become more aware of how much work went into building the sets and the whole production during that time of film. With The Eight Show of Christmas turn on some lights, curly up with some egg nog and watch  a timeless treasure.

Trading Places Makes Vengeance So Freaking Funny

Trading-Places

With it being only his second role, Eddie Murphy strikes comedic genius with Dan Aykroyd. A charismatic  con artist man and proper gentlemen of the stock exchange find their paths unlikely crossing and raise the bar for future movies to come. Billy Valentine and Wintrop characters are priceless, even down their names. Showing how the season of Christmas can bring you luck, disappointment, Jamie Lee Curtis in German lederhosen and the sweet joy of revenge. So on the Ninth Show of Christmas we are watching Trading Places and unlike the Duke Brothers, I don’t even have to bet you a dollar that this will become one of your holiday favs.

A Charlie Brown Christmas Brings A Cheerful Smile

charlie_LinusFrom the first broadcast in Dec.9 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas Special has warmed up the hearts of adults and children bringing the classic sound of jazz and infusing it into our holiday spirit. Even though he thought jazz was awful Charles Schulz insisted that they use Guaraldi’s music again for ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ with a mix of traditional Christmas hymns because it created the perfect “bubbly, childlike tone” for the show. One of my favourites, partly because I got to play the role of Linus in my grade 5 school play. Enjoy our timeless selection for  the 11th Show of Christmas

Scrooged is Hilarious

scroogesa

Like a nasty windup from the ghost of christmas past, I’m completely dizzy from going around and around in the mall parking lot, but now I am ready to kick off The Twelve Shows of Christmas, starting with Scrooged. A hilarious remake of the classic Christmas Carol starring Bill Murray as Ebenezer Scrooges character named Frank. A cut throat TV network exec who staples antlers to make mice reindeers and gives presents like towels and shower curtains to his brother. If anything a chance to see a cameo by awesome jazz musician Miles Davis. Christmas Carol is such amazing story that you might not want to mess with it, but maybe a funny rendition is okay I mean “We don’t want to scare the Dickens out of them”. Watch the movie, you’ll get it.

The Twelve Shows of Christmas

fb seasons greet word press

Everything is bustling and the eagerness of parties, get togethers, swarays, gifts, hugs, mistletoe and dressing up in holiday sweaters is growing. As we get closer and closer to Christmas day, all these social endeavors will have us swimming with emotions of happiness, spinning through the holidays like the perfect waltz, and it’s very diffident to want to stop. With this chaotic joy the season can pass by in a flash, which is the beauty of Christmas traditions. They stay the same, never age and when we take those moments to fully experience them, they almost stop time for a short while. Taking us to a place we know as a child and changing it up a little to reflect who we are now. Allowing us to notice the special gifts of life, love and family we receive everyday. That’s what makes them timeless.

With the twelve days to Christmas beginning soon we at One Tribe have a tradition, celebrating The Twelve Shows of Christmas. Each year Santa brings a big ol’ bag of awesome movies and from the hustle and bustle leading up, we cap off each night with a holiday favorite. It slows things down and gives us a chance to enjoy the season a little bit longer. We all have our favorites, but these particular festive movies showcase the stupendous amounts of style, performance, breath taking scenery and the joyous, sometimes blunderous Christmas spirit that makes them connect with any generation and the honor of being timeless. Follow along the twelve days with us and enjoy the classics with a few honorable mentionables.

Scrooged | Charlie Brown | Christmas Story | Trading Places | White Christmas | How The Grinch Stole Christmas | Die Hard | Santa Claus Is Coming To Town | Christmas Carol | Gremlins | National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation | Its A Wonderful Life

Honorable Mentions: Rudolph | Home Alone

The Holiday Spirit Of Our Modern Times

pic1

With the malls and all the stores bursting with decorations  for the christmas holidays I would still like to wish my American friends a Happy Thanksgiving. With that atmosphere of commercialization in mind, it is the disputation that surrounds the over produced holidays of our modern times.  I’m reminded of how Christmas was presented to me as a child with my parents, aunts and uncles. The traditional way of ending the year with the ones you love and a reason to possible connect with the ones you have been estranged with. Bringing the gift of togetherness and celebrating all you have experienced, good and bad throughout the year. It was a few years ago when I was having a conversation with someone that I caught myself saying “oh I love that, you should get me that for christmas”. Which is alright here and there, but a truly special gift is receiving something you need more than you want. Something different, something special just for you. It can come in any form, but it’s the thought and effort of someone finding a gift that you may enjoy on some level even if you never thought of it.  Maybe sometimes all you need is to know that someone out there cares enough about you to try and understand some characteristic that makes you your awesome self. Its a reason the clothes we make are hand crafted. Each person that comes through our store, to us, means that some element of our culture resonates with them, and finding ways to share a closer bond is the connection that illuminates my spirit.

With Cyber Monday coming up every company out there blast out crazy deals to encourage sales for the holidays and as a business, we are as well, but not for the same reasons. This blog isn’t a plug for sales, but hopefully an opportunity to grow our community. The voice of One Tribe is not spoken on the tongues of mainstream yet, which helps embody the uniqueness of its untapped freshness. Perhaps our message of keeping that fun, badass rebel inside of us alive, while building an ecological harmony with mother nature, is something that you, or a person your thinking of this holiday season would be stocked to be a part of. Also, it being a plus that you get half off on all the gear, because shopping in pjs while scoring wicked deals is fun for everyone. So in staying true to my roots I hope everyone in the WordPress community finds that beautiful Christmas spirit and enjoys the kick off to this holiday season.
